AH and aw in equal measures. Firstly AH because this the long awaited third book in the Hard To series featuring Incy Black’s own special Black ops. Aw, because she says trilogy although I hope that the exciting Freya Dervish will feature somewhere along the line in another book. No pressure there now Incy, just saying. Although I’ve read the other two books in the series, in many ways this book is a standalone.
In true spy honey trap tradition, Will Berwick, secret agent hot and complicated, is asked to seduce the secret of her brother’s whereabouts, from Dr Treherne, ice angel extraordinary. Not the best thing to ask him to do when she’s been evaluating him for months re his suitability to return to service. Trust me when I say that you just know that in the not too distant future Angel will be evaluating other aspects of his suitability because it’s plain they are under one another’s skins. However, Incy Black’s skill lies in keeping them at one another’s throats. This couple don’t give an inch for very personal reasons and it makes for great chemistry. You want to know they will heal one another’s pain. A pain they don’t admit to. Add this to a plot full of twists and turns, Incy Black’s own unique voice, and the result is explosive.

Do they play the Bond theme tune with bagpipes in Scotland – given the Dundee connection? I think I could make a good production of that.

It took their little minds off changing all the Bond posters to hamsters… Glad you enjoyed Cat. A lot of this re Dundee and Newport-on-Tay wasn’t commonly known till a few years back and yet there was the housing estate sitting, and I do mind my nan talking about that gymnasium and how she and her sister, who was quite pregnant, got heaved out for arsing about. Funny how people don’t make connections. Fleming’s father Valentine was of course killed in WW1, so I guess some things get lost in a way family wise. I knew about the connection with Glen Etive cos they actually shot a few bits of Skyfall not far from the road turning to there and of course when the film came out, the visitor centre, did an exhibition on that. But I came across the other stuff on Peter one of the times I was looking for new places to wander. I also didn’t know till I did a whole skeck on the Newport connection and traced the house that it was just along the road from where we used to live.

Fascinating, Shey. I had no idea that Ian Fleming’s family ties to Dundee were so strong or so philanthropic. I look forward to lots more good Scottish stuff! Lovely cover, Cat, and congrats to Incy on a storming thriller.
shehannemoore said:
Hee hee, none of us much knew that either till a few years back, despite these place names being on the map. I was saying to Cat that maybe there would have been better known if Fleming’s father had lived longer but he’d already moved the family to London by the time he died. I did some name checking on the house and was quite surprised that it was just along the road from where we used to live. But I gather that Robert Fleming, having lived both sides of the divide was a philanthropist The dudes were certainly busy little dudes, rolling up their hamster paws this post. Lovely to see you and hope u r surviving on your not so little break.xxxx

Oh, I’m FINALLY catching up here–pardon me, wee hamstah lovelies. 🙂 Even Bo didn’t know about all the lovely things the Flemings did in Glencoe. All the more reason that, God-willing, my family gets to the UK, we are definitely spending some time in Glencoe! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

How remarkable to have lived so close to a legendary family and thanks for sharing such comely photos of the land and homes. I enjoyed learning about the background of such a great writer. And the icing on the cake…that HOOOOOT cover of Incy’s. Goodness, I had to turn on my AC.
shehannemoore said:
Yeah Ince’s covers are hot. The thing re the Flemings is the Fleming Gardens estate is well known to Dundonians, but until a few years ago no-one knew it was THE Flemings, (We are very like that in Dundee) AND I didn’t know where they’d lived in Newport On Tay there till I looked up the house name and it was just along the road and round the corner. I got the picture of the cairn at the weekend. xx

Hamstah Bond is so cute! It’s also nice to see the pictures of the cities together with the descriptions from the novel. I love the photo of you in Glencoe too, you look happy!
I was recently in London and saw an original manuscript handwritten by Ian Fleming at the British Library. It was pretty cool. I’d never actually read any of the James Bond books, only seen the movies. You seem to be quite a fan, and I can see why now, considering all the Scottish connections.
shehannemoore said:
I am always happy in Glencoe my darling. It is such a lovely place and we have already got the booking down for later this year. You know something I have never read a Bond book but the Mr has quite a few in the collection and he loves them!! A handwritten manuscript would be amazing to see though.

Brilliant Read! Great learning about the Fleming family, only ever knew about Ian in later life and Golden Eye. Never knew his brother married Cecelia Johnson and died at Glencoe and the Judas bride was set there! Great photos and great cover on Hand to Protect. Smashing Shey!
shehannemoore said:
I didn’t know about Celia till I researched Peter. Thing is Dundee folks all know Fleming Gardens estate but never made the connection either. Oh Glencoe inspired His Judas Bride Paul, even if I renamed it Lochalpin. I wanted the idea of an impregnable glen that no outsider could get into. And Glencoe was that. The way in to massacre the Macdonalds in 1692 was by coming as friends in a way, living amongst the people and then, when the time was right, striking them down. So yeah, I used the idea of this wedding, marrying the two clans together but in fact, the heroine’s clan are just looking for the way in. (Again this was based on an incident that happened elsewhere in the Highlands) So that wedding is NOT going to happen. I used a lot of places in Glencoe in the book, the Hidden Valley, the Devil’s Staircase, the Lochan and Eilean Munde–under other names of course.
