Clothing say a lot. There’s black for widows, there’s black for pretend widows, and there’s black for those of us who protest things like the powers that be and taxes, and try to not get ourselves murdered in the process. Speaking of murder and communication being FUBAR, I read about some of the storms in California and one of the articles talked about the people murdered by the storms. Mother natures has become a murderer. The Dudes make your new book sound like a lot of fun.
You know I sometimes think the world has gone bat shit. Especially in terms of screaming media headlines. This book has been a hair tearer actually. I just want to string Eternity up. But I hope to reveal more soon.
The world is in a bad state of being. All by design of the powers that be and what to stay in power me thinks. I think we need to string up a lof of things.
Timothy, we do indeed and that does not just include setting the dudes on them either. I despair at times of the lack of rational thought
Absolutely.
Hilarious, informative, and insightful, Shehanne! Clothes are indeed important in literature, perhaps even more so in historical fiction.
“Hey, Eternity, leave us dudes alone” — is that a riff on “Hey, Teacher, leave us kids alone” from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”? If so, the rowdy rodents are well versed in ’70s prog-rock — and undoubtedly also fans of Emerson, Lake & Hamstahs.
Yeah. Through think and thin, they always pick a song to murder their way though. That one just seemed to fit for this post. They should have a top ten of songs they have murdered blog. I just like creating a clothes code for my characters. But I do think it is important in terms of reflecting their state of mind, where they are in their lives etc. Glad you got a laugh.
Murdering songs can be so fun! 🙂
Well they must do a blog on that. Cos the singing hamster, Donovan, has fair excoriated a lot of songs.
Much material! 🙂
at least a year’s blog posts.
This makes me smile and so many clothes 😄. Those mice are dancing.
Thanks Anita
Glad you liked. I am a big fan of clothes myself! So I like to be ‘generous’ to my characters that way. Thank you for visiting and commenting x
Your characters are grateful. 🙂
Lol.
Bloody brilliant 😊
Been that busy..even today the damn bed colapsed in a heap.. I just needed to get the time to sit doon and get a post done. so xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Audrey.
No handbag! Lol 😂
I love these considerations. Very interesting!
No, lol, no handbag, she doesn’t have one. She’d be the one with nothing on a match the handbag to the heroine game. Lovely to see you Ka. Hope all is shining in your world.
The dudes are awesome story tellers of stories by awesome writers. Clothes can say a lot about characters. Like they are wearing black cause they are chimney sweeps…. No! That’s not what I meant to say. It’s the Hammies that get me all flustered and wanting to get out the vodka and do a little Cossack dance.
Adore this dear Shey. The book is a sure fire winner. xxx.
I hope so. She’s been a very difficult character to write cos for someone who is keen to avoid detection she does not play things accordingly. Probably cos she has lived by her wits too long. Lovely to see you and glad you got a giggle! Let us dance my darling.
By all means pass the vodka and let us for a conga line ! Congratulations darling Shey. 💃💃
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been waiting for this! (it seems like an Eternity!)
My dear, I think my drawing skills have improved a lot since last drawing one of your heroines. I can draw a coat. Is it long? Does she ever wear a gown? Does anyone wear a gown? Is there a gown in a shop window as we amble by in the story?
Guess I’ll have to wait like everyone else.
xxxxxxxxxxxx
OH…. DUDES!!! ….handbag? Really? You might mean …reticule?
…. and whether or not there is one is up to Shey!
My darling your skill are epic. I have your pics all over mah hoose here! Framed. Okay, she has just been really
hard to write as I was saying to Rene there. And why she is hard. But just a wee bit tidying now and we are there. Lol re the reticule, which of course she does not have. Eternity is a road liver come in from the cold but can’t come far enough. She has a long green velvet quite threadbare but dashing coat and a black sort of souffle hat. Under that she wears whatever she can nick. And yes there is a gown, a gown she set aside out of a gown shop in the hope she could nick it, (but alas Gonetta, the shop owner has her measure, like most people do) a gorgeous silver embroidered with stars cream concoction and yes she does get the chance to wear it. The ball scene is pivotal in terms of being a crashing ruin. That is the inside gen.
OBOY!!!!
BTW, the Dudes are “reticulous!” 😂
Excited to read the new story! xxxxxxxx
Not long now. I mean that xxxxx
Welcome back dudes…you always make me smile clothes or not, red or black I just love your banter 🙂
LOL. Thrilled to read this Carol. Just been abso nonstop since New Year. heavens I was telling Timothy here, even yesterday morning the hubby sat down on the edge of the bed and it broke. So that was ages trying to temp sort it till I get to the store on Thurs. We have another bedroom but right now it’s baltic. I actually started writing this post two weekends ago.
Sometimes life just takes over and then something like the bed happens…my advice snuggle up with a warm toddy or just a G & T 🙂 x
Do that tonight. xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks, Shehanne, for your thought provoking post:) I always have the feeling that we are manipulatated by the people who want us to wear certain clothes/colours, therefore I would prefere to open a bottle of vodka and dance instead of concentrating on colours!
Hell, Martina, I have always done my own thing with clothes and still do. SO get on the voddie, girl and do your thing. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Thank you for visiting and commenting. x
:):)
Clothing says a lot about people, not only in literature but also in daily life
As ever, the dudes are really nice and they are always skilled storytellers
Lovely to see you Luisa. Grazie. L’abbigliamento è così tanto un riflesso di noi stessi e delle nostre vite, sembra importante usarlo in una storia. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I totally agree with you 👍🥰
My friend, thank you for all your support. x
The clothes to make the woman (and maybe I should get out of my yoga pants once in awhile!). A new book! You are my idol!!
Indeed. The follow up to O’Roarke’s Destiny featuring Gil Wryson. A while in the making.for many reasons, the heroine most of all. but yep. And BtW, talking idols you are mine for all you do xx
I look forward to reading, Lady Shey!
For you,the blurb my very kind Lady Pam,
Can the man with no past have a future?
Let me forget you ever lived …
When it comes to the woman he loved, handsome, hunted, ‘rogue’, Gil Wryson has done just that, even forgetting his own name, until he crosses swords with a mysteriously brash woman who has stolen his house—at least he thinks it’s his house. But so long as she doesn’t steal his heart, surely he can deal with the fact she’s not only unlike any woman he’s ever known, she’s hell-bent on betraying him to the people who are hunting him?
Let me die if I cease to remember you …
Despite stealing other people’s houses, clothes, food, money, identities and children, Lady Eternity Jones draws the line at thieving hearts. Once she swore never to forget her first love. Now she has, her memories are of one thing only. Her abusive, murderous husband. So if survival means suffering a cocky, darkly tortured mess of a man in ‘her’ home, in order to get her hands on his secrets, she’ll do it.
But Gil Wryson isn’t the only one being hunted. When the race is against time and time is swiftly running out, he may need her to help him remember. But does she need him to help her forget?
Oooooh, let the Smexy begin!!
Shey – this is a great conversation. Those dudes know how to party and set the stage for a discussion on a heroine’s fashion statement. I know that they are going for world domination – “Because world domiantion can only be achieved by lulling Shey into a false sense of security….” LOL
Clothes have always played a significant role in portraying a character’s personality and status for female protagonists or heroines. Clothes reflect personalities and influence the audience’s perception of them. I just watched an action movie and the heroine was wearing tight-fitting clothes, which accentuated her curves but also made her look more agile and athletic (Think Cat Woman, Wonder Woman etc). On the other hand, in romantic movies, heroines are often seen wearing flowy dresses, which make them look more feminine and delicate. Think Pride & Prejudice.
I LOVE how you dress your heroines. The first book I read “The Unravelling of Lady Fury – that red dress was electrifying. And in O’Roarke’s Destiny, the blue with red set again the dark sky and brilliant moon took me back centuries. I was in a past time and place. For me, those clothes were pivotal in revealing the personalities of your heroines.
Rebecca, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for all your unstinting support and generosity. The dudes meant to add that Fury, coming from Jamaica wore vibrant sunny colors. Black was never on her horizon. But Destiny felt it was insulting to her dead husband’s memory to wear anything other than black, because she loved him and actually it would have been far easier in that book for him to have been a horror. Alas they forgot xxxx But yes, that biz of the past dress got incorporated into a scene. So Eternity, as I whispered to Resa cos she wants to draw her and I can’t wait, has long lived on the road despite being a Baronet’s wife. So, from needles and thread to pieces of bread, her life is in her pockets but despite the mess of it, her pockets too, she is still jaunty, I’d say, even if that is all an act. Again, thank you. You are truly amazing you know in the support you give. xxxxxxxxxxxx Now back to the dominiation…..it is the dudes’ new word. Alas I think you will hear more.
I remember years ago being Helena in a production of Midsummer Night’s Dream where the costumes for the lovers’ forest scenes were all velcro-ed so they could be ripped in the wings at the end of every forest scene and torn bits of material pinned on along with hair and face muddying etc to suggest they genuinely were fighting it out in a forest. Now while that sounds like logic, it isn’t always. You see things that don’t ring true that way. Anyway that has stayed with me re clothes in a scene.
The Dudes are in rare form, Shey. I think they’re suffering from cabin fever after the long winter cooped up indoors. Their crankiness got me giggling though, along with the discussion of clothes on some familiar heroines. I like how your characters’ clothing choices reflect their personalities and contribute to the plot (something I need to pay more attention to in my writing). One name I didn’t recognize… Kara. What book is she from? I see some reading in my near future. 🙂
Diana, your writing is epic, truly. You are a world builder par excellence and always root your worlds in things we can all identify with in our one. Kara is from His Judas Bride and she is quite a difficult personality. Clothes-wise I initially had a bit of a’play on’ the fact that the hero smelt rats given the way she was dressed as there was no need to entice his brother and she makes a total fool of herself mistaking him for the brother who being the clan chief, would hardly be dressed in clothes that made him look like he cleaned the glen for a living.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha. You crack me up. Well, I’m heading to Amazon to pick up the book. I won’t get to it for a few weeks, but I’ll get to it. Thanks for the lovely comment about my books, and right back at you. ❤
Lol. Love yah. Kara’s mental development has been arrested by her father basically. That is prob the best way to describe her, cos when she sees the path and wants the path, she messes up taking it, cos she is a mess. Listen, I mean what I say re your books. You create this effortless world and that includes food, clothes, customs, landscapes, everything in fact. Every box is ticked. And that is no mean feat.
Hi Shey, this is a lovely, entertaining post about your heroine’s attire.
xxxxx Robbie. Thank you for visiting, reading and the lovely comment. Been si busy since the last post, I thought i better get something out there. Big congrats on your new book.
💐 thank you, Shey
Omg, them there dudes are hilarious. Thank goodness they gave us enough good description, despite there not being any handbags. Lol. Loved the story tell about the importance of clothes. ❤ xx
I just love clothes. I have cupboard loads… all other peoples’ leaving actually and I must change my style at least twice a week. So yeah what any character, no matter how much of a walk on, wears is something I like to focus on in terms of putting that character on the page. Lovely to see you my friend. Thank you for taking the time to read and to comment. xxxx
Girl! I hear you. I love clothes too Sistah, so I completely get you. I’ve just returned from winter getaway, so had to stop by! 🙂 ❤
I hope you had wonderful time xxx
Late to this clothes party but loving it. Your heroines and their clothes light up the page, Shey, and I can’t wait to see what Eternity brings to the party. The blurb has got me all excited ….. the way BB’s green hat always does! xxx
Katie yah knows Ah only wears that hat for you.
Love
Bobby B
Be still my heart! I hope you’re keeping the French beret in readiness for Paris in May, Bobby Bub. xxxxx
Oh Ah is, Mah Katie, AH is. An’ ah got mah carnation ready.
Bobby B…..
Kate, you’re always so kind and generous. Eternity just likes throwing spanners in the works of any party. A strait jacket is what she needs. xx
Lol!! There’s gonna be fireworks, I just know it. xxx
Yeah. There would be far more except he needs to keep her in the tent. Not to be confused with whether he wants her in the tent mind you.
Hope you got your bed sorted out. I hardly ever wear black, I’m always asked to when I sing in choir, I think thats why im not so keen on choir. Im so happy you’re near the finish line on all this and look forward to your new book coming out.
Charlotte that is so kind of you, not just to say that but to take the time to read and comment when you are one amazingly busy lady right now. I did get the fancy new bed I had quite set my eye on before the other one did me the favor of breaking. But we won’t talk about the flimsy cam key, the hole that wasn’t drilled properly in one of the central supports, or the fact that the wrong nuts had been supplied, kind of drove me nuts…. In the end it is looking classy.
I’ve had my first weekend off work in months, well since October at least, George is mad busy preparing for a competition and a concert so I’m trying to catch up on my much neglected blog. Glad you got your bed sorted even if you had some nuts and bolts left over, how does that even happen I always get a little pack of bits left over, then my Dad comes and says what are all these washers for – whoops ! He always spends a couple of hours putting right my DIY.
LOL! I am the one who puts the DIY right in this house. And just as well or it might fall down. The Mr runs a mile from a hammer. The girls still have this standing joke about the time he was going to put up a picture for one of them and they are waiting yet. I’ve learned to do everything except plumb. ( I mean I can unblock a sink and take off a u bend but I leave the rest to the experts….. ) So glad you have had a weekend off, even if your poor fellah has been run off his feet. But hey, I often say, what would you with the space in life, except fill it with another project?
Oh, the hammies did a great job describing and analyzing your characters’ clothing. Shey, it made me realize how many wonderful characters you’ve created. ❤
Aw you are too kind Carol. Truly. I love dressing the entire cast in a story. When I was little I loved paper dolls. xxxxxxx Lovely to see you.
❤️❤️
Thank you xxxxx
Pas.. Also for your lovely blogs
PS Thank you for the lovely blogs you do.
This made me smile so much. Really needed that. You are a star xxx
Aww Gary, you’ve made my day. SO happy you smiled. You are a star yourself in all you do every day.
Most enterprises!
Thank you. Very kind. Have a lovely day.
You’re welcome, meant to say, most entertaining
It is just nice you took the time to read and comment. I truly value that.
It was worth it!
Then thank you again. Truly.
This is funny and awesome!👍👏🏻
Thank you SO much. This is lovely of you. And keep up the wonderful blogging work you do.
✌️🙂
So well said clothes, colors, and culture are interrelated. Isn’t it? Back in India, white clothes are for purity. Widowers also supposes to wear whites. Priest has to wear whites. A black dress is only when one wants to look slimmer. The last line I just made it.
Fascinating. Love learning about all the different traditions, customs and ways. Clothes and colour and customs are all interrelated. Thank you for reading and leaving this great comment too.
Bise Amicale Bernard
Thank you Bernard. A wonderful day to you and yours. x
This is wonderful and creative. I’m so intrigued about the characters now.
Wonderful to see you and great to meet you at Diana’s. Very kind of you to comment. It is always total silliness here with the little furry dudes. They just hog it all.
