I always find writing about love is the hardest thing actually. And after the things H and H have often done to one another, well, I start quaking in my boots, thinking I better at least try and deliver. Happy Valentine’s to you Adele. Yep it is hard to define. And bigger yep we keep trying. Cos also everyone is different. Writing it there’s also the essence, the thing that makes these people tick and seem right for each other at the end of the day. So thank you, cos I truly do find it hard not to sound trite and I wanted to do different takes on it, like Malice’s acerbic one from the start of the Viking and Stillmore’s jaded one from Splendor, cos both these characters have been badly bitten and burnt as opposed to the it’s all rainbows moments. Tthere is only one way an author can bring those reckless and feckless feelings to life and that is with the power of the narrative, the words used and the way they use them to paint directly onto a reader’s emotional canvass.
I love they way you use words and they way you structure them within the story; love the rawness and power in your quotes above, how they expose the darkness that lurks at the heart of your characters, and the vulnerability that shines through that darkness, which they use as a mask to hide behind.
Said it before and Will say it again. Your new covers encapsulate the essence of your novels into a single vibrant whiff of SMEXY. Almost like a heady perfume. It’s brilliant branding. Individual and identifiable.
Paul, my day is being made many times over. I love the way you get my characters. Love IS certainly not always hearts and flowers. In fact I won’t write hearts and flowers. I always go back to Rilke on the subject, the difficulty of loving another, the fact there is nothing without it, to make damn sure I won’t actually, nor could I do it today. I tried to pick different quotes from diff places in these books when journeys were still to be made and truly I do get to the quaking in my boots stage when I’ve finally reached the place where I need to pull it all together and hopefully try to deliver this passion, my characters have usually tried so hard to deny. So your words mean a lot, truly. And thank you about the covers xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ah well, I can’t blame her for that, especially when there’s eating of valentines and postmen 🙂 But these quotes on love do get me thinking about how amazing your creativity is, O Sweet Lady Shey. You’ve taken one thing, a universal thing like love, and you’ve transformed it over and over again for each story to make it a unique event time and time again. Beautiful. xxxxxx
Lady Jean, firstly their skills at interviewing my characters are not the best and she and them have a long history where the love bit isn’t mutual. Secondly, your kind words mean the world to me. You come up against this thing in writing romance often where folks just think you write slop and I think …well, ain’t you misinformed and blinkered. I want to write about the human condition–and sometimes that ain’t that nice as we all know — and I am trying to get at what, not only makes these characters tick, but what makes them tick together, so at the end, it’s not all roses and rainbows, it’s a couple who have hammered down each other’s and their own edges to make this work. Originally I’d planned on taking all the big moments from each book but I chose two from earlier in the books about love to show the very different aspects of it and also at this stage, the journeys still to be made. All couples are unique in how they work together, so I am thrilled that you felt this in the extracts xxxxxxxxx
I did indeed! and it’s so true. No couple comes together the same way. Love is an ever-changing connector and you share every stage of its transformation. That’s another reason readers stay engaged with you: they never know what form love will take next. xxxxxxxxxx
LOl xxxx Well one of the things I’m editing right now… I am also busy on a YA book for a forthcoming Black Wolf release for one of our authors…is my latest and this is a tale of revenge that can’t be taken and how two people on the very edge, of a disintegrating edge, can still somehow come together because they make each other feel alive. And because of that –just to complicate things– of not wanting to do that either, of fearing to do that, thinking some falls can’t be broken by another, there’s no end of betrayal. It’s .. ahem… yep, quite complex xxxx

Lol Inese… If only xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Well we don’t use our dining room much cos we have a dining kitchen BUT it is a nice room, very private, very quiet, and it is so nice to sit there over a meal when it’s dark outside with strains of wonderful singers like Billie Holliday in the background. So we ended up, sitting there till 11 instead of lighting the fire and watching some stuff instead. My ladies, well I know they are quite difficult but I do have fun writing them xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What a never-ending tragedy it was for humanity (and hamsteramnity) when the manuscript of Alistair The Happy Hamster a tale of great love and suffering was forever lost to posterity.
