BLURB
A woman not even the ghost of Sapphire can haunt. A man who knows exactly who she is.
Only one man in England can identify her. Unfortunately he’s living next door.
Ten years ago sixteen year old Sapphire, the greatest jewel thief England has ever known, ruined Lord Devorlane Hawley’s life when she planted a stole necklace on him. Now she’s dead and buried, all Cassidy Armstrong wants is the chance to prove she was never that girl.
But her new neighbor is hell-bent on revenge and his word can bring her down. So when he asks her to be his mistress, or leave the county with a price on her head, Sapphire, who hates being owned, must decide…
What’s left for a woman with nowhere else to go, but to stay exactly where she is?
And hope, that when it comes to neighbors, Devorlane Hawley won’t prove to be the one from hell.
…………………………………………………………………………………………..
‘Did I mention how devilishly hot Devorlane is? Mean and arrogant. But HOT.’
‘Doing some reading? What to read next.’
If you are looking for the traditional regency period historical romance, you won’t find it here. This was one of the darkest historical romances I’ve read in good long while.
The Book Review.
‘Balls ladies, she has balls. ‘
‘Doing some reading? What to read next.’
I overuse the word ‘neat’ but I have to say it, Shey. Neat!
Lord Zoo, thank YOU. I was just saying, I have aye been a goth at heart you know and this story is quite gothicy and I just loved this image. But I did worry it might look too like MY thing. But I am so thrilled that folks seem to like it. So thank you. THANK YOU c
I thought the cover art was brilliant. Artistically it told it’s own multi-stories. Add your words – or vice-versa – and I think you’ve got yourself the perfect product – although I hate calling art (all genres) a ‘product’ – but you know what I mean. I still don’t ever get my album artwork just how I want it ~ George
Lord George.. I do know what you mean. Hell yeah from a man who has stood in that post office at the edge of the world so I do know where you are coming from cos u are one hell of a musician. I know what you mean by product cos there’s ways we all despise the word. I chose this cover from the gut and cos this is a heroine who has lain on worse than this background in terms of things in her backstory. And she is difficult. ( so is he but I am keeping to the ladies here for the jewel thief theme is all, now I have my rights to this series which I never finished, despite having the plots kind of there. All cos I didn’t have my rights, ) What you’ve said means a hell of a lot. xxx
Fab covers, I especially love Lady Lazuli’s. Lots of luck with this Shey xxx
I am so chuffed that so far on covers and design I have now spent the grand total of 40 quid. If I count in the MR’s..it’s 50… I was prepared to pay much more. I don’t want my work out there looking cheap and awful you know, the Mr’s either but fact is I never saw anything I liked. I am really thrilled that folks seem to like the covers and this one, especially cos as you know from the story, this book is darkish. Splendor is far lighter, she’s a bit ditzy although she seems to get into bigger and worse scrapes. Thank you Jane, these comments mean the world xxxxx
Love this – beautiful cover!! But how smart, do you think, allowing the dudes to encourage people NOT to buy the book?! I think someone needs a serious talking to.😒😘
I do love this cover. I had run with Splendor first cos it was the one I tweaked the least. I LOVE kind of gothic things but I did hope that this wouldn’t be too much so. BUT the book is kind of gothicy as you know and I just had to have this one. You know it cost me roughly 20 quid all told for the image, the license and the designer. I was even able to crop it my way etc on the image site which was great.. This far folks seem to like it so I’m pleased. Truly. I feel it and the Splendor one reflect the book and they look like a series. I never really like either cover before. But now I will finish this series. x
Also, I think this cover captures the essence of the book moreso than the other one. Steamy gothic angst! Oxooxoxo
Hell.. I had nowt to do with that other one.apart from having to say to say to the publisher in question on the same day as they had then binned half their other authors,,,, could you please remove the image of Tower Bridge…..it wasn’t built till 50/60 years later. Now…funny thing re covers.. up to a point we don’t mind the ‘suspension’ –talking that bridge– of disbelief, like the nice dress that isn’t of the vintage etc… but see the wrong landmark??? The one historical fact we can prove? Well…I think that is diff for so many reasons x
Ps Steamy gothic angst? Oh yes. I have aye had this gothic thing. You should see some of my clothes and boots that way .. Years back see black glitter nail polish and black lipoy..oh and bright red lippy with gothy tops..that was my bag. I am talking teen years back xxx

The Dudes on the importance of book covers
Adele thank you so much. Coming right by to look xxxxxxxxxx
LOL ” Balls, she got balls.” Still love that. I’m loving the new cover! Not that the previous wasn’t good but this is definitely giving it justice.
Ki Pha.. I always loved these words of yours. I could NOT do this post without them. Truly. (The hot is good too!) AND thank you. Bit of a year but got my rights, got my path and I just wanted a cover that spoke my vision, however skewered . xxxxxx
Love your book covers Shey ! Of course Hamstah Dickens’s is much better 😉 ❤
Ralpha, xx Hamstah Dickens’ is totally blank. he will show it off next blog especially for your eyes x
Heehee ! HD is so subtle and original, eh ? A famous author who has never written a book and has an original blank cover for it. Works for me ! 🙄 ❤
HD.. High definition. You know I think you have got me onto something there. Yeah he will have his cover next blog.
A gorgeous cover! I love that you are using gowns in this series. This cover is a beauty. I’ll be doing an Art Gowns Update post in a few weeks. I’d like to include this cover, and some words about the book, even if I haven’t had time to read it. Sending hugs! xoxo
I wanted to have just the heroine on the covers for this series to give it that overall series look. And I have sent you an ARC copy cos you are an angel, so you are. I do love this cover and this gown. I quite like the kind of gothicy look and the book is quite gothic in some ways. But I did worry re it looking too much but I am thrilled folks seem to like it and it’s having a great response so far xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Gorgeous cover art!
A snip off istock and some magic by a Fiverr graphic artist. I do admit Laz has become my fav cover xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx thank you
Genius!

Way to go, Shey! I like dark too and love Lady Lazuli. This image is so strong, it will pop right off the screen. Huge congrats on walking your own unique path – you gotta do something to sort out Hamstah Dickens cover now. I worry about him. xx
Kate xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to you, stopping off here on your fab weekend. I do love dark and for me this was her. I actually am loving walking my own path, the best bit being that I have more time. I just decide in the day what I am doing and for how long. It’s good. AND I can really spend time looking at ideas for covers too, instead of thinking…God, have I got to try and sell this now…. I will sort out Hamster Dickens. My only fear? He will eat it.. x
Ah, poor Hamstah Dickens. He should really pay attention to this one. I concur that an overall theme to a book series is crucial in order for readers to connect the stories at first glance. Plus I love the LACK of light on this cover–it fits with the revenge theme perfectly. You are doing smashing work with design!
PS: I loved your answer on the previous post with “I squirrel.” I need to use that term more often! 🙂
Yeah. I squirrel lots!! Places, images. yeah. And that house on the last post was a really interesting one, not far from where we lived at the time. Someone told me that it was not a cottage but everyone thought it was. So when I came up for sale I wanted to nosey at the schedule and sure enough it was on three floors and completely Georgian inside down to stone sinks and stone spiral staircases and the most amazing reception rooms. So I squirreled it as Stillmore’s ‘hideaway.’ This cover…well… this is a far darker book. I like to theme a book in terms of landscape and character and my overall here was a gothic feel to the descriptions of the house, the grounds, the clothes. Also for me..this is her in every way. You’re an angel. Truly x
Aw, shucks. xxxxx
And I totally agree on the gothic feel. I love that she’s laying down on the stairs, too–put down, but not out for the count. 🙂
Oooo, that kind of house can create all sorts of stories! There’s no trove like inspiration. xxxxxxxxxxxx
Yay. There’s not. Yeah. there was a series of images re this model and that dress but in reflection and having narrowed it to three I chose the stairs cos she has lain in hard places her whole life. x
Wonderfully dark and gothic. Such an improvement on the previous cover and really makes the book stand out. Oh – and it’s a great story too! 🙂
Thank you Cat. I am rather a fan of dark and gothic. I have always been that way . And yes I do have the clothes and boots to match. I had my eye on this whole set of images and Istock had them too at a snip, I chose that one as it seemed the least gothy then I worried that maybe it was still too gothy. But the book is kind of gothic . I did it that way deliberately. Anyway, the response has been wonderful. So I can relax now. (Got tae say BTO, rather a lot was an improvement on that last cover. Had to giggle when they said what they said to all us binned foreigners that we must not use the cover art..To quote Ruby from this book I thought, ‘Wif pleasure.’ Thank you Cat. Yir a gem x
Absolutely stunning cover Shey. You see, when doors close we are meant for better things!!! ❤ xxxx
Well I tell yah, I couldae do much worse than some of the covers that have been on these books. I’m really happy with it. xxx
.
Lol! You nailed it! ❤ xxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Truly x For me, it’s her. x
Totally gorgeous cover. I love you are taking back control for your own covers as the previous ones were not bad but they simply did not do justice to the brooding dark intensity of your work. Both the new Lazuli and Splendor do, you instantly pick up the novel’s mood from the cover and know the books are related. Total winner(s). You have a great eye. Pxxx
You know what I love I am taking back control too. I never liked the fact that the previous did not reflect the fact it was a series, there was no series branding whatsoever about them. They said nothing to me in terms of the books. Splendor especially. For a start she would NEVER have worn a gown like that. And Stillmore may have quite started to fancy her he NEVER letched like that on her despite the offer he made her. And yeah some bits are brooding and dark. Lazuli is a far darker book, setting, characters, flaws, backstories, how they utterly go for broke, how they goad and drive one another until they do. He is driven and not just by revenge. Anyway I am thrilled folks seem to like this cover. It’s quite become my fav cover. xxx
Lovely. LOVELY. Such a beautiful start to my day. My heroines, the dudes and I thank you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Fabulous post
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Thank you so much xxxxxxxx
Fantastic cover, and your book should fly off the shelves, Shey!
Hi Shehanne! This is such a dark, twisted cover fitting the range of your story which must be expressed as such! Your covers always pleased my eyes, but I do think this daring, gothic look fulfills the mysteries found within your pages! Wow!
I have been missing also my dose of the munchkins; the hamstahs! I hope you do another amusing post about the book by Hamstah Dickens! With appropriate nibble marks and a little bit of shredded pages. . . 😉
xxxxxxxxxxxx ❤️ xxxxxxxxxxxx
ps. I miss my friends but love spending time matching houses to future owners with Felicia.
I am still concerned about my grandson Landen since he is the thinnest of all the grandies’ and I know that chemo will take away part of his spunk and body, too.
Even more love to you Robin and your grandie, I don’t know how you cope. Glad you are with your girl. I did choose dark deliberately for this cover. It’s a tad darker than Splendor and I know the gown isn’t of the right vintage, same with Splendor but I went with the idea of the book and for me , her she was… Sapphire.. Also it’s nicely Gothic and some of the references in that book were gothicy ones. That was my world for that story in temrs of imagery etc. x
Stunning cover! Love your books xxxxxxxx
Inese, you are always so good to me. Soon as I get the other two backlisters out and the Mr’s in print, I will be getting my new one ready to go. it’s all finished. xx
Oh so wonderful! I have to start reading the Mr’s book and a few other books, but there is always something else to do 😦 I will let you know xxxxxxxxxxx
Oh..tell me about it. I seem to spend the whole day running just to stand still xxxxx
nicely done 🙂
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx you and lovely to see you. Hope your world is good.
Nice 👍
Thank you so much. Lovely to speak to you xxxx
Bonjour mon Ami Amie SHEHANNE
Gros bisous. Bernard
BERNARD xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Beautiful. Thank you my friend xxx
Great cover. I only wish mine were half as good. Not that I do murder or girls or anything but juvenile humour, but you know what I mean.
Lol. I do Roger. I got that image for like 8 quid off Istock. I was able to crop it there. Then I gave it to a designer I use on Fiverr to do the graphics. I think the whole thing came in at about 20 quid. That was including the back cover for the print book. I found a few free jewel images for that and merged them myself before I gave that to the guy. Truly I just felt that the covers I had on that book never reflected it, or the fact it was a series ..oh and let’s not even go there about the fact that the building on it hadn’t been built when the book was set….
Nice 🙏
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx you
