Christmas Chez Shey’s. By Shehanne Moore.
Cold enough for you? I’ve been reading through all the warm coastal Christmas posts and want to say I also live on the coast five minutes walk from the one pictured above, near Dundee. Not this Dundee-
That’s in New South Wales, this one in Scotland.
where right now temperatures are well in the minus and hamsters will get their asses booted if they don’t butt out and get on with finishing my latest book which is actually set on the Cornish coast not long before Christmas.
I recently did a post about my the heroine of this book, who would sell her soul for a Christmas garland, and about how, when it comes to Christmas decorations…..
It’s not just the memories we hold onto, it’s the life we live, the life we’ve made while understanding that that life evolves constantly, which makes what we have right now in our hands, all the more precious. I’m not going to be waking up ten times a night to see if Santa’s been, or woken by my girls running in to ask me if Santa’s been. Now me and the Mr, get up, get the tea on and open the parcels. Christmas in Scotland can be weather dependant, so we always hope our family are going to be able to get from one end of the city to the other. A few years back a tree fell right outside our door blocking one of the two roads into where we lived then. Of course folks were soon out tying bits of tinsel on it and Santa Stop here signs. We also hope there’s not going to be any accidents like the year the oven door fell off first thing on Christmas morning and broke on the tiled floor…..
It would be lovely to stroll down to Broughty Ferry Beach and castle–pictured several images above– five minutes away but the family are all coming for a traditional dinner, turkey and duck.
I don’t know what you’re all cooking but here’s the menu.
Thank you for decorating the dining room table fellahs…
making the cakes to hand round with the mulled cider to the arriving guests.
and for offering to make the meal…….
Maybe not eennee theeng but you sure said plenty thing.
Now after the meal you will be sure to light the log fire, won’t you? having stocked up all the log baskets first? We don’t want the guests to be cold in our Scottish climate. Or to have to go outside in the frost and rake about in the shed for more wood.
Mind you, I suppose you have fur coats? Then I need you to get the games started, Pass the Parcel and Pin the Star on the Tree, which the grandbaby ses he is well gonna win, Doorman and these other games you still need to plan, for when the evening guests arrive, cos you know evening time is ‘partay’ time.
Indeed it is. Now you’re getting this. I’m thinking maybe Rapid Response and Limericks but we need a few prize winning games, so get the thinking hats on.
Forget that presents stuff, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without our family and friends around us, good food, good cheer AND the games to really get the party started. For me these are the things that make Christmas Day, the things I want to stand here again and see. The big things.
Now…a bit about this coastal romance group. They are authors and readers who love reading romance by the water, whether it be the ocean, a lake, a tropical island or any other body of water where heroes and heroines fall in love and live happily ever after.
Well actually now I think about it, there’s a swathe of Lady Fury set on a coast, not to mention backstory set on various islands, Malice and Sin from The Viking and the Courtesan get shipwrecked on an island, the Black Wolf from His Judas Bride lives in a cave on a shore, AND did I mention that Brittany from The Writer and The Rake is no stranger to Dundee?
AS for Christmas? Well, I believe Loving Lady Lazuli has a lot to do with Christmas.
Anyway, you can enter the rafflecopter by clicking on the link but in addition to the Gift card and the 30 ebooks, second prize, there’s also a daily chance to win an ebook. All you have to do is visit the authors on the list and leave a comment on their Christmas blog. Prizes will be drawn on Christmas Eve.
The post before mine is Rich Amooi. And tomorrow’s is Fiona McArthur
Here is the overall link http://bit.ly/2A4bbkK
So what are you waiting for? Me to ask…is there anybody out there who can give these dudes the names of a few Christmas games my guests can play?

Mr Militant xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for the reblog. So kind xxxxx Chez Shey’s Coastal Christmas Blog Hop https://themilitantnegro.com/2017/12/12/chez-sheys-coastal-christmas-blog-hop/
Absolutely adorable!
Carla xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The little guiys run this blog. Now and again–like twice a year ) I get to get a word in.
Always love your posts, Shey, and the hamster dudes! Lots of fun. Merry Christmas! xx
Merry Christmas Susanne. Always lovely to see you. I hope all your preparations are well ahead. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
“It’s not just the memories we hold onto, it’s the life we live, the life we’ve made while understanding that that life evolves constantly, which makes what we have right now in our hands, all the more precious”.
Oh I love, love, love those words… I completely agree with you.
Love the Xmas decoration and I wish you Happy Holidays in advance dear She 😀
All the best to you and yours ❤
Couldn’t agree more Aquileana,
Shey has such a gift with words. She gave me goosebumps and I laughed out loud. Very few can boast such a talent!
Elizabeth, now my day has been made twice. I just wanted to try and capture some of why these occasions are what they are to us. Why we keep and treasure them . All the very best to you and yours this Christmas and many sales to you next year xx
Aquileana, you are an angel. I have been so unwell with a chest infection and then cos it was cold our fancy new boiler froze. Yep. Apparently these boilers do that. Fat lot of good if you ask me and half of the folks stuck with them frankly. I really struggled to put this post together and rise to any kind of mark. So your words have made my day. Truly. The very best Christmas to you. May your day be filled with love and laughter xxxxx
Thank you dear She ❤ Virtual hugs 😀
Virtual hugs to you my angel xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Haha I loved the hamster’s input. Lovely Christmas decorations for your table and your menu looks like a fancy shamancy restaurant. Awesome!!! Merry Christmas
Lol I do Christmas in a big way. I just want it to be magical for everyone who comes, be that to the meal or later on. (There’s a buffet for that!!) The hamsters run my blog. They have been doing it for years. Merry Christmas to you. The best of days. And thank you for commenting x
Dear Shey this was a stunning Christmas post…. You are always out there with your characters and wit and fun! It was Lovely to See the naked (sorry dudes it just sounds like a rude word it isn’t honest!) Shey and Mr, Chez nous (Or should that be Sheyz nous?) And meet the wonderful woman behind the marvelous books I have come to love so much as a friend as well as respect as a fellow writer. Marry Christmas my dear friend and with a menu like that I don’t care if you are about 300 miles away I would be up like a flash if I thought there was a sniff of a free dinner… even if I had to hitch hike all the way – now I sound like one of the dudes! Have yourself a merry Little Christmas and All my love and best wishes to you and your family PX
Oh goodness Paul, we do do open house at Christmas. There you go. The door is open. There’s also a buffet at night for those who come to the party. When we lived over in Newport a lot of Eilis’s friends would come in at night. All my love to you and Russ. May you have a wonderful festive season. It’s thawed here and our heating is properly working again. Hope you have got back on your feet from the cold and also from that awful carry on. I am thrilled you liked this. I thought I would share a Scottish Christmas since it is such a contrast with Australia. And I worried it was too boring! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You BORING!!!… now go and wash your mouth out with soap!!!! XXXX
PS I’ll drop you a line a bit later Luv P
PPS if you ever want to know what to buy a bloke for christmas… buy him a greenhouse….It’s fab…. like mechano… although I must admit the air got pretty blue at times!!!! Speak later Love PXXXXXXX
Okay Paul…you win!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What an absolute blast of a post. Thank you, you made my day and me laugh out loud. I do live your wicked little hamsters, a lot!
Oh this is the little hamsters’ blog. Not mine! I seldom get to speak on it. They are too busy whining and moaning and fighting with my guests and each other. So glad you enjoyed and got a giggle. And thank you for the lovely comment Shirley, truly. xxxxxxxxxxxx
Love, love, love this post my lovely Shey. A true spirt of family Christmas, traditions and hamstah dudes that now think ye are cannibals, just brilliant. Your menu sounds delicious. What a lovely arrival treat, cupcakes and cider. Have the most wonderfully sparkling Christmas xxx
Aw Sparkles, that is a lovely comment. I do like to get the party going right off and what better way than cupcakes and mulled cider? Folks are fair cheery by the time they get to the table! Have a wonderful Christmas my friend. I know all you do for those you love. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The cupcakes and mulled cider is such a different twist on the usual, I’m sure it makes for a cracking warm up before sitting at that beautifully decorated table. Mulled wine jelly…make mine a double please 💫💕 xxxxxxxx
Mulled cider is nice. AND really warming too. The mulled wine jelly is easy to make and always has that nice rich taste to it too. Doubles on the way xxxxxx
LOL, such a great post! Very entertaining post, thanks for sharing 🙂
Victoria, thank you so much for commenting. And thrilled you enjoyed the post. I’ve been totally under the weather and I struggled to get this post together so these comments are ones I treasure xxxxxx
You’re welcome – I hope you’re feeling better!
I am feeing a lot better today. And our boiler has started working again. YES!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
And what do hamsters fill their cheeks with on Christmas Day?
Now… is this a riddle? Mike… need to get you up here to do the Christmas quiz. I could add this one to the questions xxxx
Google says, ‘Speaking of fruits and vegetables – hamsters need them too! The best treats for hamsters are foods that are similar to what they might eat in the wild. Fresh (rinsed with water) veggies are good, and examples include carrots, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, romaine lettuce, spinach and other greens’! No cheap iceberg lettuce then!
Mike, you need to set up a soup kitchen for these Poundland ones and give them their Christmas dinner. x
Such a fun and cute post thank you.
The little guys run my blog. So glad you enjoyed xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Mmmm, your Christmas menu sounds wonderful 🙂 As for games, we usually end up with board games, or this crazy dice one called ‘Pass the pigs’- where, yes, the dice are shaped like pigs. I don’t know if the little guys would like seeing you throw animals around though? Wishing you and yours a wonderful day!
I does like a good Christmas menu. The grandbaby and his mum and dad were away the other weekend, so knowing there would be no little phone calls and visits, I made all the desserts and cakes, the shortbread etc and got it all in the freezer. I felt very good about that. ( Just hope it don’t break down. Our last one did once on December 23rd. Now had it been the 24th I would not have worried so much. ) I have played Pass the Pigs, years back with my girls. It’s a great game. We could have pass the hamsters… x
Oh no! Here’s hoping this freezer behaves itself! 🙂
This freezer should. That one that broke came with the house and we had not been here very long. But maybe I should shut up and NOT tempt fate !
It is so lovely, Shey, to feel your warm Christmas spirit flowing from this post. Such fun and such generosity …. mmm, that menu sounds fantastic and the buffet later …. and beautifully expressed. Hope you are feeling much better now. I am still thinking of that mulled wine jelly ….. don’t let the dudes scoff the lot! xxx
That mulled wine jelly is rather a fav of mine, I must say. Very easy to make too. The dudes won’t get near it. I am feeling a lot better today and our heating is working properly no cos of the thaw, thank you, my lovely Kate, for your wishes and kind comment. I wish you the very best day and hope you will see all your loved ones xxx
Thanks, Shey. Have a wonderful time with the family and games. #couldgetheated!
Lol… I can’t wait for the rows over the 50p pack of chocolate santas. I was explaining to the wee man how we would be playing pass the parcel and everyone would get a chocolate lolly with a carol title attached to sing a few lines of for a giggle and one person at the end would obviously get the prize. ‘Yes,’ said the wee man, ‘I am getting the prize.’ That’s that sorted then. You can tell the kid is a hustler.
Such a cute post!
Aw, thank you. The wee guys run the blog. I usually don’t get to speak on it at all. I just thought I would pinch it back for this post. x
Lots of fun to read. Have a wonderful time.
The very best of the season to you Lesley. The little furry dudes run this blog. I get on it like once, maybe twice a year… Thank you for coming by xxxxxx
Those hamstahs are in the holiday spirit!! They’re so funny ~ You’d think I’d find them at least a bit predictable by now but nahhhh 😉 Merry Christmas, Shey xxoo
The little dudes were not in the best mood over this post. YOU have a lovely Christmas Christy. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ah Dudes, well done.
I hope you are feeling better, Shey. The weather is quite unsettled here, as it always is this time of the year. Keep your feet dry.
Love the abundance of desserts in your Christmas menu xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ahem…I got carried away with the desserts Inese, I fess up about it. I kept seeing all these recipes and I couldn’t help myself. OUr weather has been awful and the new boiler froze in it. A horrible week but hey xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh not the boiler! It is awful. And you are not well, you need to keep yourself warm. Hot mulled wine could be the solution 😉 xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Well, in many ways it was a most interesting week re that boiler which we only had put in 20 MONTHS not years ago. From Worcester boilers who expected us to climb out on the roof and defrost the pipe…..and BTW they were talking to folks who routinely tackle mountains BUT not when we have paid them to do it. To our lovely man who fitted and dealt with everything re our heating but sadly is no longer with us as we discovered to our upset and not cos of the boiler breakdown, to the new guy we got, is quite a saga. Truly.
fun post
Glad you enjoyed. The little dudes run this blog x
Oh you talented and vivacious darling… a brilliant post as always and those capricious dudes, well…. Christmas 🎄 is one of my favorite times of year. I love the fun and frivolity. It’s all about the family, and the stolen moments. Sending you virtual hugs and heartfelt greetings for a wonderful holiday season. BTDubs, your menu looks fab! I may be dropping by.😂😘🎅
You would be very welcome! There’s plenty to go round. Lovely to see yah sistah, I love Christmas and I like to make it a special day for folks. It is about family. I hope your day is the best and is spent with all of those you love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ditto, doll face. Oxooox😘😍
Keeses xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh you always make me laugh!!! Eat the blanket, too???
They obviously think we put sauces on a blanket and cut it up in pieces….. xxxxxx
‘We’d really appreciate it if you wouldn’t’? Dudes! You really need to jack up your Christmas spirit! 🙂
Your home looks so warm and inviting, Shey. Wishing you a joyous Christmas filled with love and blessings ~ and good food, drink, and fun 🙂 ❤
We are trying…trying so hard to be full of good cheer, but it is hard for us, living here on this horrible blog.
The poor poor dudes
Aw Dudes, I hope it helps to know you are loved ❤
Aw Tina xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Wishing you the very same xxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxx back x
Great post – very atmospheric – and,for once, the dudes let you get a word in edgewise. Look after yourself and get well soon, Shey. xx

Charades – you can play it in a cozy room next to a roaring fire or on the beach
Yeah. Charades are the best. There is usually all out war at charades between the ladies and the gents…. xxxxxxxxxx
How fun is this at Chez Shey’s LOL. Hope you’re feeling better my lovely. You’re hilarious, and who doesn’t love reading at the beach! Here’s a game for the dudes: pass the dice. – Wrap a few presents, or get donations for this game: Put them in the middle and everyone sit in a circle and pass a tray with 2 dice around. Whoever rolls doubles gets to take a gift. Do this until they’re all snatched up. Then set a timer for 10 minutes and pass the dice around again for 10 minutes. Whoever rolls doubles gets to steal a gift from someone who has one (gifts must be opened). When the clock finishes, whoever has the gift keeps it. Got that dudes??? Merry Christmas my lovely! xxxxxxxxxx
Like this one. In fact …love it. The dudes might snarl over it..you could see why, they stole my this. they got my that, but I do love it. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Lol, you are so right! If they’re left without a gift, holy terror may break out! 🙂 🙂 xxxxxxxxx
WW3 might break out xxxxxx

No Sorry I really don’t have any Christmas Games for them to play Sorry Hammys
LOL Thanks for the fun posts
(Whispers) We just won’t tell them you have no games. They will whine, moan and bring out the baseball bats…. Glad you enjoyed xx
It all looks so wonderful and Christmassy, Shey. Gorgeous!
It’s getting there Robbie. Getting there xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh dear, we haven’t done many Christmas games in my family, which, come to think, sounds a touch sad. When I was a kid, Christmas Eve was BURSTING with services and presents and late night meals and family and even more services and so on. Christmas Day was rush to church, and then…my aunt’s. Who had no toys. And there we sat. Now I think my folks just liked going somewhere to sit and not DO anything after weeks of chaotic running about, so looking back I can’t blame them for that. But ugh, Christmas Day was so anticlimactic. Now with Bo’s family, they’re aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall about the present bombardment, and then…sitting around.
Needless to say I’m excited that this year, Christmas sees my family at home. Just us. Perhaps with some games, and some music, and lots of stories and hugs. 🙂 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
AW my darling, you have to partay. Just like you are talking about there at the end of your comment. I am sure you can gwt some wee games for your family. When mine were wee we would play things like Christmas bingo….I would make up the cards and make each one slightly different. The squares just had simple Christmas things on them like a star or a candy cane etc. Wee prize for the winner. Pin the nose on the snowman and we would do things like a beetle drive but make it a snowman, these kinds of things. Some games I still just make up, others I find. But you get a laugh with a game and stories sound great. All better than just sitting about xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Yes, exactly! I don’t want my kids to have that kind of dull Christmas, especially as they’re old enough to remember past Christmases now. I’ll see what fun wee games I can come up with here! 🙂
YOU will think up lots xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Great pics! Love the Christmas menu!
Thank you for coming by. xxxx I do like a fancy Christmas dinner. I have been really bad about the sweets xxxxx
I hope you, your family and your hamsters have a wonderful Christmas! I’ll be sure to visit some of these blogs.
Christmas wishes–the very best day– to you and yours Robert. Thank you for your kind support. Some of the blogs have good Christmas stories. Their day is very different from mine, so thank you for dropping by . xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You’re very welcome!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Robert.
Seasons greetings to Sheh, the cute angry hamsters ,all the authors and readers of Shehs blog✨
Sheh it is really not fair. There should have been at least one book written by the hammies. Now see they are sad and angry. Send them over to my blog for some treats. I on the other hand am drooling at the mention of the Toffee Apple😋 The fire place looks so warm and inviting. Lovely post. Have a wonderful holiday season ahead. It’s a long weekend.
Love and hugs
Ana💖
The toffee apple FUDGE cake is no bad as we say here in Scotland…. OOPS did I mention that word Fudge..? Now then these dudes need to get the finger out and write. Don’t be fooled by their promises as they munch toffee apple cake (sorry). Our fireplace here is not so grand as in our last house but hey we are just as happy. The very best to you and lovely to hear from you again xxxxx
Hmmm? Lovely xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The best to you
Thank you for all your support all year xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You certainly know how to do Christmas up Dundee way! That’s such a yummy menu you have planned for this year. Tell me what happened the year the oven door fell off. Did you get to eat … like some kindly neighbour had a spare oven?
I’m usually worn out by the time dinner is on the table at my house, as I have to do loads of singing on Christmas Eve, including at the Grand Hotel. I don’t get to bed until two in the morning, then have to get up again at six. Am getting too old for this. Christmas dinner usually happens about three in the afternoon.
Have a wonderful Christmas, Shey, and I’ve left a present for you over on my blog (see the link in my reply to your comment). Everybody needs a 5-star review for Christmas! xxxxxxxxxx
The year the door fell off it took 7 hours to cook the dinner with silver foil taped over the space. I started at 7 am cos I was up so it was okay .( If I was to start re neighbours Sarah, you might want more answers than I could ever give, some even involving police…..) Since that Xmas I have always cooked the dinner on Christmas Eve. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (But if you ever want to contact me privately I do have some stories ) Now, reading this comment I head over to your blog……xxxxxxxx
Wow, that was some act of faith and perseverance, that the turkey would ever cook, plus trying to have all the other bits ready for the meal at the right time! Well done. As for neighbours needing policing, I have lived in places like that but fortunately no more, but it only takes one bad egg to move into a road, to trigger a war! I have three chapters of a book on the backburner that’s all about that sort of scenario. Poor you. It’s very stressful when things get like that. I wil contact you privately after Christmas. By the way, are you on Skype? I have it on my tablet, which means it’s fairly basic but it still works. Would be lovely to chat to you sometime. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Well Sarah, I never thought about that turkey NOT cooking. Our neighbours were never bad people. In fact had they known they would probably have helped but can we just say they were known locally for having queues at the door ready to slap the Mrs. cos she was so interfering. We were constantly asked by folks what it was like living next door to them. I have to say it was an entertainment. We used to have a ten great moments of the wife cos really it was surreal. On one occasion she came to the door to say she had been followed off the bus and propositioned. Now if you had seen her you might know why I struggled to keep my face straight. But I had to. I was in the middle of teaching this girl whose father I had once bumped into in the street, looking for her to kill her basically. Anyway, that girl and I did deck ourselves the moment she left. Anyway the police get the guy and she duly comes back to report that when they knocked on his door his immediate response was….. ‘Plainly I am needing help… Please. Arrest me.’ I don’t know I would have repeated that to anyone… xxxxx
Sarah…this is some present.. truly. Especially knowing how hard pressesd you are xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I’m thrilled that you like the present 🙂 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I’m thrilled by your kindness xxxxx
Shey, you do know you’re at risk of being inundated with uninvited guests!! With such a lovely home, tasty menu…for vegetarians and carnivores…sorry, meat-eaters and stunning location…even if not in Aussieland! I hope the trees remain standing, the oven door secure and everything goes well. Now…you’ve put me in such wonderful Christmas spirits, I can’t wait to get organised! Present wrapping in front of the Xmas tree with a glass of port methinks! 😀😀❤️🎄
OOH, that’s okay re the guests? We’ve been inundated before xx Bottom line? Have a wonderful xmas and will wel see you in the New Year xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A bit cold for me, Shey, I prefer Aussie Christmas’s, nice and warm, with the occasional hot day.
Have a fabulous Christmas 😀 xx
Lol… It has been plenty cold here, in the minuses, but a lot better the last few days. Have a wonderful time at Christmas xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Lovely Christmas decorations and the cute hamsters.
Merry Christmas. I hope your day is filled with joy and love. xxxxxxxxxxx
We are having cooked ham in a slow cooker with pineapple pieces on it. We are trying it a different way this time. We’ll have mashed potatoes, hot rolls and cranberry sauce. Earlier my hubby made fudge to give as gifts. He only made 4 different kinds this year. We’ll be an empty nest this year. We visited with family for our Thanksgiving this year. Need to share with their other relatives. Anyway, Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Happy holidays to you and yours. An empty nest is hard but if you do thinks differently that IS the best way. AND hopefully next year your nest will be full again. The very best to you. I must say I do love fudge xxxxxxxxxxx

I loved your photography and such sumptuous offerings of beauty~ dining table, bedroom and burning fireplace. . . Looks like the perfect setting for romance! 😉 ❤❤❤❤❤
AWww Robin xxxxx. I was so sad to leave our last home but this one has proved a treat to rescue xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It is simply delightful and such really nice personal touches, too. Take care, Shehanne. I’m glad you rescued this house and made it a warm home. ❤ xxxxxxx
I hadn’t done a house up in ages. For quite a few years in our last house, my hubby wanted to move so there was no point doing any more. Also that house was a never ending black money hole. This house was going below its value and we had to stand in a queue to view it cos of that and also where it was. But it had been neglected by so many previous occupants I don’t know folks could see its potential. Lol, folks were coming out of it that day going…’ How can people live like that?’ End of the day now its all done up we were the lucky ones.
