You know, there are times I relish in my accursed vertigo! So you’re a real ale gal?
shehannemoore said:
No. Mr is a real ale guy. I’m a vino girl. That’s a fruit cider I’ve got.. The Clachaig Boots bar has a fabulous gantry. They have every type of gin, whisky and something like 10 -15 real ales on, especially during a beer festival fortnight, which this was. The last twice they have also had different ciders from ‘micro’ type breweries. I still quite like a a cider now and then. Let’s face it wine can just be wine so I’ve been trying the diff ciders on offer there.
mikesteeden said:
Sounds liked the sort of place I best avoid for the sake of my health…an odd thought struck me reading this, namely that I cannot imagine the Scots having a taste for gin! Why such a thought struck me I’m not sure…perhaps it’s because you are the worldwide home of whisky (sadly, because I rather liked it) a drink I gave up 30 years or so ago as it turned me into a somewhat unpleasant person…it did the same to my old dad as well. The good things of life shouldn’t have side effects!
shehannemoore said:
You are right there Mike but then we might have too much of them and fail to appreciated them. We probably don’t have a taste for gin but like other older fashioned drinks it is having to kind of adapt or die. The Clachaig is always packed with folks from all over the world. We once talked to this fine couple from Savannah who got totally steaming at the live music but before they did they both said they felt lucky to be alive given the driving on the road to it. Then there was the time we were invited to come and smoke dope in the tent of two young Bretons–naturally we declined– but it is a very cosmopolitan place so they cater boozewise in a big way.

Hello Shey. You poor darlings! Hope you are both okay. Sounds a bit of a scary adventure and no mistake.
shehannemoore said:
Lol, you know it was an adventure, we often have adventures of various kinds. And while this was a bit more ‘worrisome’ than usual I sometimes think it’s ok to come out the comfort zone in life, cos whatever, teamwork got us out that mess and I guess you actually learn lots about tackling things. You’re an angel for reblogging xxxxxxxxxxxxxx more times do I lovee thee. And am nipping over to look xxx
Kate McClelland said:
Awww just glad you are both okay. :0)
shehannemoore said:
Awww. You are very sweet. We ended up bumping into the music man from Glencoe last night. He was playing there in the bar on the Friday night last week I said we were nearly bloody killed the next day so he was damned lucky to see us x

Well of course I was thinking of “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost as I read through this post! Sometimes the best path is so looooong… But I’m glad there were no bones broken, as the hamsters assured me 🙂 Looks like you had quite the adventure, and I liked seeing this part of your country xx
shehannemoore said:
Hee hee, Next time I look for the best path and the side of the mountain they tell you to take. This is a lovely wilderness in many ways and yeah, there’s always an adventure to be had xxx
Christy B said:
And may your weekend be full of beautiful adventures! Once again, that green dress on you at the wedding was f-a-a-abulous, darling xx
shehannemoore said:
Darling, you are too kind my special Christy. (Know what I got it from this corset shop in Shanghia and it actually only ccst a hundred quid Yeah. ) You rae very sweet. We are going out for lunch today – a thank you lunch from my sister and her hubby. We were out last night to see Liz Lochead poet…utter disappointment, left at half time. Of course I follow some wonderful poets online, as you know, so it makes for hard acts to follow. But we did have a great meal in Frankie and Benny’s up the town. (We never go to Dundee for night’s out cos we live on the doorstep of a ton of bars and eateries–) and then popped in to hear some live music and ended up bumping into the music man from last Friday night in Glencoe. Small world eh!

Yep, it’s dangerous drinking in Scottish pubs ! Glad you are both home safe Shey 🙂 ❤
shehannemoore said:
It sure is dangerous drinking in Scottish pubs Ralpha which is why I NEVER do it. Believe me, I was glad too but it does no harm to come out of one’s comfort zone on occasion. x

such an artistic presentation……. enjoyed reading……

No. No. I just tell it like I see it. And it is such a pleasure reading posts and seing the beauty from all the way round this planet we share. xx

Cliffhanger!!! Glad you’re both okay xx This sounds like one of Vince and my walks in the Lake District, when we go on a ‘Vincie’ short cut. To be avoided at all times. Great analogy with writing too. Looking forward to the next book xxx
shehannemoore said:
Lol Jane we are glad we are ok too. till I always feel it does one no harm to have to think on your feet. I see you enjoy short cuts too. The thing was this was no short cut. This looked like the way to do it from the bottom… What was scary was when you saw it up close and personal cos like everything in Glencoe you can’t really see it till you’re on it. Then you think ‘shit.’ Your a gem my darling. I have the cover for the enxt book. Will show it off soon. xxx
Aquileana said:
Loved the post, grogeous surroundings and you look so pretty! 🙂
By the way, the title echoes Shakespeare I guess… Well, I feel that the line something is rotten in Denmark sounded at the same time in my mind as I first read it… it probably had to be with “styling structure sentences”, to a certain extent, I am guessing! … Of course we are tossing aside the major difference, i.e odours and dramatic settings, LOL…. Have an awesome weekend dear She! Aquileana 🙂
shehannemoore said:
Laughing at the Denmark bit. You might say that there was plenty rotten as we struggled onwards. You don’t get any kind of phone signal in these places and this particular hill is very seldom done so we thought we have to get out of here 3eventually cos no-one is going to even know we are here. I am having a quieter weekend this weekend my darling angel. I hope you have a fabulous one x

Oh my Shey, my lovely lady Shey. This post…in the midst of the boys attacking one another with rakes, as my own self-doubt as a writer and mother crested, you yanked me up the mountainside. Thank you, Dear One. xxxx
shehannemoore said:
My darling, then my work is done. Put the big stick away. That’s just kids is all. You are a wonderful mother. Truly. And your kids are just your kids. I gave my own girl that pep talk this week. I think when they misbehave we blame ourselves. Don’t. As for your writing. Keep going honey. Get the big boots on and kick that doubt. We all have these doubts. Honestly. It is the five stages of suck. Stage one is always…’I’ wrote this . Like all proud. Stage 5 is always How could I write this? Chin up. xxx
jeanleesworld said:
(grins with a touch of tears) Chin’s up, and moving forward. xxxxxxxxxxx
shehannemoore said:
Yes!!!! Honey, as we thought that day, always move forward, no matter how tough and before I make that look easy, I have been through more grinders than your average speck of pepper. Forget the five stages of suck and just keep going forward. That is all that counts in life xxx
Kate Furnivall said:
Wow, you are one brave gal! Of course you would laugh in a moss monster’s face and chase zombies off the mountain. I would expect no less! A fabulous post …. and yes, book-writing is exactly like your mountain climb. I am clingIng to the deer fence right now! Thanks for the laughter. x
shehannemoore said:
Hee hee. That is a scary place then you are in. It sort of pings and twings about. Seriously, all part of life’s rich tapestry. But writing wise. always best not to stick to the formula. That is predictable. (Of course it is safer) Can’t wait to get my hands on the new Kate book. Enjoy your weekend with your lovelies. I am sure you will get down off that fence soon. xx
catcavendish said:
Oh my goodness! No way would you catch me clambering up and down that mountain.I’m far too much of a scaredy cat – not to mention my knees (let’s not go there). All power to you, but have you thought about a safer occupation? Knitting perhaps? The scenery is magnificent though. Beautiful and majestic. You earned that pint – and more besides!
shehannemoore said:
Hell Cat… I already knit…. LOL, but I do. And then I mountain climb. Anyway this was but the half of it. I am not going there about getting Mr talked off that ledge in terms of where to put his feet or how I told him when he was off it, don’t go where I just was, it’s a sheer drop and what did he do? And then he rolled downwards before my startled eyes.
Then there was that other gully/ stand in/ bracken hang.
The scenery is to die for…we nearly did. Best bit? Last night in a Dundee pub —we aye drink doon the Ferry but we were up the toon as they say for certain reasons– we met the musician from last Friday in the Boots Bar. I said , ‘Nae offence but we were nearly killed after listening to you.’ The bottom line? Sometimes it does no harm to challenge yourself I guess. I mean we got out of it with teamwork and that is not such a bad thing xxx
Debby Gies said:
What an exciting adventure Shey! Glad no bones were broken. Love the shot of you in the pub. And the dudes did a great job of telling your stories. I think they’re getting better at writing, lol! You have to stop scaring ’em already with that Moss Monster! 🙂 xo ❤ (Damn WP won't let me comment! Had to sign in with FB to get this up. Could you check if it went to spam please. 🙂 ) ❤
shehannemoore said:
Debby, lots of probs with WP again for folks I hear, all the comments going to spam. It was indeed an exiting adventure. We do like to have them occasionally…. The Boots Bar is a great place. That was us sat down in front of the log burner cos we were rather wet. Me? Scare the dudes with the moss monster??? Just look at how it has improved their writing, instead of fighting. Lovely to see you xx
inesephoto said:
Oh dear, what an adventure! Thanks goodness you guys are home in one piece. The hills can be very dangerous, especially for the solo hikers. You are very lucky, but you are also experienced in this sort of terrain which definitely helped. Love your photo documentary, and the Dudes provided splendid narration, as always.
Be good! xxxxxx
shehannemoore said:
We shan’t tell the dudes. They will only get above their furry paws there. We sure had an adventure my darling and we will be staying put for a while now. The dudes are welcome to go scampering but we are going to just have a quiet life fro the next few months. Lovely to see you. I spy a post of yours and I will be getting over later when I blasted likes button is working again xxxxxxx
inesephoto said:
Yes, you please stay put for a while. I have read the comments and got a bigger picture of your near miss. So dangerous. I am blaming the leap year. xxxx
shehannemoore said:
Well we did leap a bit! I promise we will stay put and when we go back we will be good and choose hills with paths. xxxxxx

I was set to contact you this morning when I saw your latest gorgeous poem and photo. There’s been none for several days. I was worried there. Thank God yir back. Your words and images are always so uplifting. Lovely, lovely to see you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I’ve been busy with preparing for ❄️ winter — chopping wood, putting away outdoor furniture, etc.
Livng in the country takes a lot of work outdoors, which I like because that’s how folks lived for thousands of years.
I do work from my 🏡 home, so that makes everying doable, so these modern days do have their benefit.
Love to you and your adorable family. 😘 xoxoxox
shehannemoore said:
So long as I know you are good my darling. Nice that you are preparing for winter and you live as you do. Lovely in fact. Nothing wrong with following ancient rhythms but having that modern bit too. Love to you xxxx

Wonderful post Shey! I don’t know what I enjoyed more…the photos of the amazing mountain trek or the wildly comical remarks of the guys. But now that I think about it, I really like the comparison of writing a book to wandering around trying to find a forest road. Good lessons and good reminders of how to make the writing work. And obviously they do because of your new release–congratulations!
shehannemoore said:
Lol Ann, yir way too kind. Mr and I will not be trekking any more mountains for a while. We are contemplating the quiet life and not letting the feet itch till next year. I had to get the dudes focussed for this post. I’m glad you like it. I did want to talk about not sticking to the formula, the well mapped out plot—largely cos I never have a goddamn plot or clue. Listen, have a lovely weekend and Halloween. It will be right up your street!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Carolee Croft said:
That was quite an adventure! I’m glad you discovered that speared hamster. It should keep the dudes in line for another few weeks.
This reminds me of something I was thinking about the other day, that writing is a bit like the myth of Sisyphus. You are rolling a giant rock all the way up a mountain, only to let it roll down again and start all over. This is what it feels like sometimes!
shehannemoore said:
LOL..It sure does fell like that at times. Shoulder the wheel kind of thing. I have always said re writing and mountains, I see the beginning. I see the end . And in the middle I hope I don’t fall on my ass too much.
It was indeed quite an adventure but–looking on the bright side– you learn from these things. (Getting all the info to hand, picking a mountain with an actual path, are just two of the things….) As for getting a speared hamster to keep the dudes in line….well…. Lovely to see you and keep writing my darling. You know there is no such easy thing. Easy writing is bad writing. xxxxxxxx
